A call for Paul Fox,to step down as chair of the British Wheel of Yoga

Debbie is a British Wheel of Yoga teacher and former BWY DCT

Paul, as a BWY teacher & active member of over 15 years, I feel very saddened that you chose not to put a senior BWY teacher on that REPS panel and instead are choosing to hand over these important decisions about yoga to a corporation with so little knowledge of yoga and so little care for its integrity that they are already accrediting 5 & 6 day yoga teacher training programmes through their fitness NOS.

Surely you must realise that by funding the NOS, you are opening the floodgates for lots more of these 5 & 6 day courses? If you are in any doubt about this, then you need to take a look at the whole host of short yoga teacher trainings that are already fully compliant with the SkillsActive NOS for fitness - the template you and they propose to use to come up with the yoga NOS.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with these courses. I do not know anything about them. I only know that these are the courses you say the NOS will stop; and yet they have already been through the same basic NOS that you are proposing to apply to yoga.

Are you sure this is what you want?

Because this is what happens when you let the fitness industry lead the way and you are just about to hand the reins of yoga over to them (leaving aside for the moment that true yoga has no reins).

Are you sure you want to be the person that fully commercialises yoga?

If that's what you want to do, do it on your own, but can you please step down as the chair of the BWY; an organisation that has fought hard for many years against the very thing you are doing.
